Crowing
Just to clarify, males are double barred and females are single barred. The barring is actually the removal of pigment, and barred females can only pass their copy of the gene to male offspring. This is why people use barred hens to create hatch-sexable offspring with barred male chicks (e.g. black sex links). Otherwise you're correctBig thick legs, lighter color because boys are single barred so they're spaced out further.
When they are babies it is easier.
Girls have a nice little head spot and a lot of black on the legs, boys have a big uneven head spot and little to no black.
This is Dutch, at about 7 weeks. See how dark her barring looks due to it being double? Also, skinny dark legs.View attachment 1845913Hobo, again very dark. Her legs have faded, but still very thin compared to a male. View attachment 1845914Dutch as a day old, not much of a head spot, black legs.
View attachment 1845915Dutch in January, right at point of lay. Hopefully this helps.View attachment 1845919
