Unfortunately i dropped it and it cracked... but 1st egg. Now to figure out which bird it was. One of the Black Sex-links or Amberlinks.

One clue to finding a laying hen is the color of their comb/wattles. If they are bright red and healthy looking, often this can indicate that the chicken is laying! You may want to look out for any that have brighter combs and wattles than their flock mates! Good Luck!!!! Congrats on first egg!

So funny ! You just have to pass you hand over them as if to pet their backs, whoever squats is laying it ready to lay . Congratulations I remember my first eggs , so excited

Exciting! I am waiting for the first egg! I am guessing it will be one my black sex links, as my other two are buff orpingtons and they tend to lay later.

You can also check the spacing of the pelvic bones. Feel just under their vent. One finger or less spacing between the 2 points is not laying. 2 fingers or more is laying.

We have a diagram here somewhere. Holding the pullet, feel under the vent for the points. Very easy to do. Just like scratching their belly. All external.

The pelvic points are on either side of the vent, rather than below it.
