Chickenkeepers,
I have an 18 month old Buff Orpington who, for the last couple of days, has been sitting in the nesting box almost constantly. Initially, I thought that she might be going broody, but she's not feisty like a brooding hen. Rather, she's just sitting there (not on any eggs, mind you). When she does move about the yard, or the coop, she does so with her head tucked in a bit, and her butt in the air. I checked to see if her vent was blocked or something, and it wasn't. She's actually been pooping some creamy stuff, so besides the odd consistency of her poop, she's at least able to do so. I don't see any other signs of distress or markers of illness, and I'm wondering what there is to be done about her. I've been feeding her Kombucha for a couple of days, since the signs I have noticed seem to point to some sort of gut issue, but I'm open to suggestions, and hypotheses.
Peace and Love,
Dan
