My 3 year old rooster has been nothing but welcoming to my pullets until today. They’ve been together for 10 weeks. This pullet has just started squatting and he attacked her when she squatted (I’m assuming) because he was chasing her earlier today when she squatted in front of him and pecking her a little. Thinking the other pullets made this worse once there was blood. I need advice on how to go about treating this. I’ve cleaned it with vetericyn so far. She’s acting okay. I’m going to mix her some electrolytes in water. Should I apply neosporin? Should I try to wrap it somehow? Again any advice will be greatly appreciated! I have quick stop styptic powder if you think that would help by its not currently bleeding very bad. I’ve heard of using aspirin for pain but I don’t have any on hand and don’t know what dosage I’d need to get for her.

Cleaned it more with vetericyn, and coated it in plain neosporin. Anyone have any other ideas should it be covered some how? Please help with any advice!

Isolate her and keep her calm. Plenty of food and water. Keep up on the neosporin.

Not sure there’s anything else past that to do to her.

Now Mr Rooster would be holding what’s left of the short straw. So much as an errant peck, he’d be very familiar with garlic salt and pepper. Roosters shouldn’t be that rough with any of his girls.

I don’t know chicken medicine but in the meantime I would say try and use some baby safe scissors and trim the feathers near the wound to keep them out and keep the wound cleaner maybe?
with that being on her neck/skull area, it’ll be tough to wrap it properly because she will stretch it out and shrink it down as she moves. I’d say keep her in the house for now and let it get some clean fresh air and it should heal I would imagine.

I think he started it and the pullets went after her once there was blood. He’s definitely never shown any aggression or roughness with the girls ever before. But trust me he best be on his best behavior because my girls are the important ones he’s just around to keep watch on them while they are out he’s really good at alerting them when the hawks are around but this behavior will not be tolerated!

I was thinking about trimming those feathers back, that sounds like a good idea to keep it cleaner and less irritated! Thank you for the advice!
