Lordy, One of the chicks I hatched and raised just turned 19 weeks old and when I go out to feed she'll come up and immediately squat and hold her wings out to the side... I pet her of course, but I can't believe she's already wanting to breed! The only 19 week old male I have (different dad and mom) won't be able to go outside until his feathers grow back where they were plucked for surgery and even then I'm not sure he'll be able to breed with only one wing as they use them for balance. Any suggestions?

What kind of breed is she?
I have had Easter Eggers squat at 18 weeks and start laying at 20 weeks old.
She may be a week or two from laying her first egg.

She's actually a Cockoo Marans x a Black hen (Black Astrolorp, Svort Hona, Black Silkie cross). I have another that is Barred Rock x Black hen (same mix) the same age that's not showing any signs of maturity yet... and in the same pen a Black Copper Marans pullet (25 weeks old).. of the 3, she's the only one showing signs of wanting to breed or being submissive.

She may be close... first eggs are very exciting!!
Amen! When my pullets recently turned 23 weeks, the Beilefelder was the first to surprise me, then one of the two EE's started laying a few days later, followed by my BO pullet. Still waiting on the second EE and the BCMarans pullets to do their stuff. I am just loving those blue eggs! Later in the spring I plan on hatching some eggs so I can take chicks to the monthly auction over in Opp.. I'll definitely have enough eggs weekly to stick a sign out front. Hopefully it will help pay for feed as it is getting expensive.
BTW, I had 5 eggs in the incubator, one was an early 'no return' and a second one developed a blood ring so I pulled it.. but there are 3 remaining that have 6 days to go. They are full siblings to my little one winged cockerel. Cockoo Marans x Black Sex Link.

His full sister is all black except for a small amount of red in the neck area.
