Hi Guys,
My chicks are just shy of being about 6 weeks old. I have 16 right now. I'm starting to be able to tell ( I think) who is a roo and who is a hen. They are EEs and one has a very red comb the others 5 roo suspects have a pinker comb. But their combs do stand out more than the others.
There is one I know for sure as he was trying to crow this am...lol We had been hearing one or two trying for a few days but this morning I caught him.
I was thinking there was 5 roos but now I think there is 6
and I hope I'm wrong. 4 of the suspects 6 are my favorites they are so pretty and I am only keeping two roos
I'm now thinking of how to convince DH we need a bachelor pad for the extra roos, instead of giving them to SIL for the freezer
I love my Ameraucana/EEs but the one thing that is bad is they are all so different visually I am going to find it harder to part with the ones I need to cull. If they all looked alike it would be easier to just pick the roos who took care of business.
I hope my next breeds will be easier to chose who to keep.
Take care
