My 3 week old chicks made it to the semi outdoors today in their own mini run. They went nuts pecking and scratching! All 8 had their first real dust bath together in one hole. I think they’ve figured out the ladder and hole in the bottom of the brooder. I built it so the floor comes out in sections for cleaning but one smaller section leads to the ladder underneath. I’m hoping they will put themselves to bed but I’m betting it will be another teaching moment with lots of squawking and screaming, much like coming out of the brooder today. It sounded like bloody murder. But they seem to love their newfound freedom. I’ll try to post a pic without messing it up.

Exciting!! I finally took all of mine out together yesterday and you’d have thought I was torturing them trying to gather them up in a bin to travel outside lol they loved it too though. They are so cute to watch outside!

They still don’t get it. They let themselves out but just don’t get the simple act of going back up the ladder at bedtime. They sit out and chirp chirp like something is eating them one by one.

I managed to get 2 on the ladder going up and the rest followed! Exciting times I tell ya! They will surprise you at every turn.
