Well I bought a 10 acre farm and the kids asked for chickens. Some how we ended up with 16 layers and 24 meat birds. Pretty exciting so far. Built my own coop and an 8x4 chicken tractor. We'll see how it goes.

! Pleased you joined us! Are the layers and meat birds together? I only ask because the recommended size for the coop is 4 sq. ft. per bird and in the run it is 10 sq. ft. per bird. Good luck to you and have fun with your flock!

My coop is 10 x 10 with half of the layers mixed in. The other half is in the tractor. They were a few weeks older. Gonna have a problem when the other layers are ready to come out. Not sure how I'm gonna tackle that issue yet. Hopefully the meat birds will be thinned out by then.
