Little Sandy, our banty hen, is setting for the first time. She is in our garage, and this is ok with us. She has food and water available to her always but will only leave the nest once a day, then she is always starving, of course. She started out with eleven eggs but is down to five. I think she is eating them. I know they will throw out eggs that I guess they think are bad, but isn't it a little early for her to tell? It's only been ten days. If we candle them this early can we tell if they are viable? And how can I make her stop eating them?

Yes, you can tell now if they are viable. A hen will be able to tell and will get rid of the bad eggs.
