Howdie All!

Well, being a boy raised with concrete between my toes, I haven't had much experience in the world of "outside the plastic tray" poultry....that is, all the poultry I ever had came from supermarkets.

I want to raise my boys with an awareness of where food comes from, and how to select proper ways of chosing what goes on your plate.

Given that we were living in that homey small town of Los Angeles, it is not so easy.... but decided that my Boys should get a bit closer to the source, so to speak and thus, we moved a little farther out from the City.

Now we are minutes from a few organic farms and the learning experience has leaped quite a bit.

Yesterday, I and Wife took our three boys to "our" local organic chicken farm and watched them process a few turkeys. It was indeed a learning day for all of us!

No lines of turkey thoughtlessly "harvested" in masse. It was a time of honor and true thanks giving; of reverence to our fellow beings and an appreciation for that which they were.

If you are a farmer out there, that treats your animals ethically, humanely and with respect, then this is truly the time of year to say Thank you! for being there for us.

Very nice message! Well said! Welcome to BYC from Ohio!

Here's a pic of my turkey, Mr. Tom, who will not be Thanksgiving dinner.....

I bought him too late in the year, so he won't be big enough to eat yet....Plus, I've taken a liking to him.....Oh well! (Sigh)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Welcome aboard and good for you for taking steps to challenge the status-quo in food production.

Next year you'll be processing your own turkey. :) Or helping out on the farm.

Yes, I do believe your crystal ball is accurate! lol... I take the Boys to a local organic farm to volunteer picking weeds and such, already spoke with the chicken farmer to have us come and volunteer there!

We will most definately be raising our next Thanksgiving day dinner guest of honor! lol

I'm glad you and your family were able to come visit us and see how it's done. I'm always thrilled to meet people who appreciate their food as much as we do. We depend on customers like you and are very thankful that the movement for local, humanely-raised food is on the rise; for the health of our farm and also because we firmly believe in that movement. Hope to see you back again soon!
