We have a 2 1/2 week old Buff Orpington chick who is somewhat active, but she will not extend her neck. When we first got her, she was very unstable on her feet and would fall over a lot. She seems to be more steady on her feet now, but we decided to separate her from the rest of the chicks because we weren't sure if she was getting stepped on. She was also very dirty from all the time she spent on the ground instead of up and walking around. She is not growing and developing the same as the other chicks, she is rounder and not as active. We started giving her vitamin E and raw egg white about two days ago, and she is a little bit more alert, but her neck is still very crooked. It's as if her neck is permanently twisted and we are worried that she might be in pain. Should we keep treating her? Is there anything else we can do to help her neck? Is it too late? This is my first time raising chickens.

Some chicks are born with wry neck, sometimes due to vitamin E or vitamin B 1 thiamine deficiency from the parents. I recommend giving human vitamin E 400 IU and 1/4 tablet of human super b complex tablet crushed in a spoonful of water with a dropper. Do this daily. Help it to eat, and feed a little egg yolk (for selenium) with a balanced chick feed daily.
