I have two young black marans (less than a year old) who were laying 1 egg/day each. As it got colder, they slowed down laying, and now they've completely stopped. I've heard chickens slow down in the winter time, so I didn't think much of it until my uncle said his chickens are still laying everyday. I live in a very mild climate, its usually 5-10 degrees celcius (40-50 degree F) throughout the night, and about 80-90% humidity (we have a thermometer inside the coop). We recently bought a little heater, so that may make a difference but it's too early to tell. We have a tractor-style coop, so it's directly on grass, and its moved daily. Also the roost part of the coop does not have a floor (so the poop falls directly onto the grass) but I worry that there's maybe too much airflow for the girls at night. Anyone have any thoughts? I really don't mind not getting eggs in the winter, but I just worry they are stressed out.
