I ordered 10 chicks from MPC and recieved them 10 days ago, so far I have lost 2 to pasty butt.
Now I just went and checked on the other 8 and my 2 barred rocks seem to be limping. The other 6 are growing and looking healthy, but the two rocks were laying down and not active at all and seem smaller. When I got them to move they seemed to favor one leg and stumbled about. I seperated the two rocks from the rest because the healthy ones seem to want to walk on the unhealthy ones like they aren't even there... I'm very upset because I especially wanted barred rocks because I think they are very attractive birds. Anyway, does anyone know what is going on and what I can do to save them????

I just went back to check on them and noticed one of their feet is curled under, does this mean anything?

How do you lose a chick from pasty butt? I have always just washed it off with some warm water and they were good to go. I also have added finely ground oat flour to their food to help things. Did it die from not being able to poo?

I really don't know if it was pasty butt but I did wash it off many times a day, I'm just assuming that is what it was. I just don't seem to be having any luck with MPC chicks. I bought 7 chicks from TSC 5 weeks ago and I'm having no problems at all with them, they are very healthy and already in the coop, with a brooder light of course.

Wow, thats awful! So sorry you are having trouble with your chicks. Sorry, I have never had a chick with leg or foot problems. So far, I have never had a chick with ANY problems... I feel very fortunate. Hopefully someone can help you find an answer. Good luck!
