Well... I was a little too ambitious at a poultry swap, and got two young Cubalaya roosters. They're actually quite nice birds. They're just a bit too flighty for my tastes and they could use more room than I have. According to the lady I got them from, they were hatched in April. They're brothers and get along very well together. (They cuddle up to one another on the roost.) Since they're buddies, I'd prefer not to split them up. They're gentle as far as roosters go. They don't really like being handled, but they like to near you. Not the least bit people aggressive. Put them in an enclosed space, and they'll walk into a cage/carrier with minimal prompting.

The reason I'm offering them here instead of taking them to a swap meet is because Cubalayas are a rare breed. I'm not sure if they're pure Cubalaya, but their looks and temperament check out. It would be a shame to sell these little dudes to be eaten when their breed is listed as threatened by the American Livestock Conservancy. They are black and red, very pretty. One has yellow legs, the other has white. Their "lobster tails" are still growing out. (This means their tails are going to get a lot longer.) They like to run around and crow for the ladies. They aren't overly rough on the hens. They don't like cats, and freak out whenever they see a dog. They'd probably do well looking out for a free range flock.

Let me know if you're interested in these guys.

I raise cubalayas and they don't look pure.
