Hi everyone, I hope you are all keeping well and safe.

My problem is this - I have hatched 6 chicks recently, and no. 5 hatched and hasnt been quite right since she emerged. We first thought she had wry neck, cause she kept looking upwards, but by day two that seems to have gone away. However, She is still floppy and is not interested in eating or drinking, all she wants to do is burrow under the towel with the heater pad and sleep. Please see short video I took. .
How can I get her to eat and drink? And what is wrong with her? I have successfully raised over 4 baby chicks from egg to pullet thus far, and never seen this.
Please help.. Thank you

Try feeding her scrambled eggs (from what I have read it helps), and try just dripping some water on her beak/around her mouth. These are the best tips I have. Some chicks though just have a failure to thrive, or a genetic condition meaning the will most likely die......
She doesn’t seem right, and if a chick doesn’t seem right then they will most likely pass. I hope she makes it though. Good luck, and sorry for this happening :(

Hi, thank you for replying. I will try the scambled egg and the water trick. I hope she makes it too. thanks

I haven't seen that either. Until I saw the video I thought it was just a chick still living off of the yolk it absorbed at hatch and just wasn't that interested in eating or drinking, but no, there is something wrong. I would not expect that chick to make it either but that doesn't mean you don't try.

I'd give it some liquid but not straight water. You can use electrolytes or such, but sugar water can work too. I use the liquid that goes in the hummingbird feeder. Use a medicine dropper and put a drop on the tip of its beak. Hopefully it will drink it. Don't force anything down its throat, you might drown it. Just keep giving it that liquid until it stops drinking.

The liquid keeps it hydrated. The sugar gives it pure energy. The hope is that it will give it enough energy to start eating and drinking on its own.

Keep it warm and have food and water nearby but you said it was not interested in eating or drinking. I think you need to be more proactive than just offering it food.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
