So last month, we lost the first of our not quite then a yr. old buff orpingtons,no sign of illness, egg laying was fine, beautiful and vivacious one minute, then gone the next. Today, another died, although my husband arrived home as she was dying. He thought she was dust bathing at first, then realized she was flopping around in distress, her head tucked into her chest, then she expired as he was laying his hand on her.Our girl last mo. was the bottom of the pecking order, slow growing, last to lay, today she was the top of the heap, first to lay, fastest growing. Any connections here? Is this common? We are devastated as a family-man I love those fricken chickens,it's sooo sad....Any ideas, folks? Thanks
