Just now I went out to say goodnight to my chickens. One of older hens didn't look settled in and then flew down from the roost bar and went outside. I thought that was strange cause when they are in bed they are in bed! I started doing my nightly chicken chores and watched her kind of slump down and get puffy. I was like, oh no she is sick...Then she stood up in front of me and there was another egg. She immediately went to eating it! The shell was very thin but the egg itself looked fine. What the heck I am dealing with now! It's been a week of chicken drama. She did lay an egg this morning. I only have 3 laying at the moment so that is how I know she layed a perfectly normal egg this morning. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

How old is she?

Sometimes they can get off schedule and lay another within in short period of time.

If she's acting normal and perked up after the soft shelled egg, I'd just monitor her to see that she's doing well over the next week or so.

If she has another soft shelled egg, then it would be good to give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for 3-5days.
