Hello! I am new to chickens. We have 6 girls- 3 easter eggers, 1 barred rock, 1 gold sex link and 1 buff orphington. They are 22 weeks now.
We have 3 solid egg layers as of this week. My barred rock was in quarantine yesterday in my house due to a comb injury ( she is fine, I am mildly over protective lol) In the morning there was a broken yolk but that was all. She went about her day like nothing was different, today she is exactly the same- happy, eating, drinking, begging for blueberries.
My white easter egger (we think she is) tried laying today. She went through the whole process and when she was "done" she did her proud chicken clucking and went to drink some water. I am not sure if she thinks she did it, will still lay something or if this is a first time misfire for both of them. Can that even happen??
They have layer feed, fresh water, oyster shells, range daily. It has been very hot recently but our temp went mild here in North Carolina the last few days. I have read about being egg bound and it doesn't seem like either have any matching symptoms.
Thank you so much for all your help!
Lauren
