I have 11 commercial layers that are about 1 yr old. I have had them for 6 months and for a long time got 11 eggs a day. For the last 3 1/2 weeks I have only been getting 9 eggs a day. I have checked multiple times in the morning (egg time here) and have figured out which 2 are not laying.
They are all healthy, eating and drinking normally. I have noticed feathers in their run but, the 2 that are not laying are my best looking girls. They receive layers ration and veggies/fruit in the morning. The ones that are laying are all hard shells....no softies. Their poo is normal as far as I can tell......when they oblige me when I am present.
I am wondering if this is maybe normal for the breed or if this could be a health concern. I have checked for mites/lice and cant see any. I have thought maybe worms but, cant see any signs other then the not laying.
Thinking about trying the cayenne pepper thing but, what about my everyday layers. Would that hurt them??
Any suggestions, ideas or help would be great. Thanks in advance.
