My dilemma. 2 tupperwares of 2 hens with their own clutch of eggs All eggs due yesterday/today in the coop. When I looked this morning one hen had at least 1 chick the other had none.
Got home after work and the hen had moved into the other tuperware where the chicks were hatching. 2 alive 2 dead(I think from getting smothered).
I moved the 1 hen back to the chickless eggs and gave her a chick so she wouldn't leave her eggs again.

My dilemma now is. How Important is it to separate these broodys from the rest of the flock... the dog kennel i have set up is only good for 1 tupperware. I could take the hens out of the tuperwares and put the eggs and chicks and hens in the kennel on the flat surface.. im worried about them brooding together. What's your thoughts. Should I let them be with rest of the flock or should I put them together in the kennel...thanks

I think you can leave both with the flock unless one is being persistent in trying to interfere with the other broody, then I would move just one hen with her eggs/chicks into the kennel. From my own experience a good broody will take good care of her chicks even if kept with the main flock. Both my broodies this year (first timers me and them) did well with little to no help from me. They were about a week or so apart with hatching, both hatched 8 chicks and both raised 7 to weaning age which is pretty good for first time moms.

I should mention that the tuperwares are the hens favorite nesting boxes.... they have other options to nest but they prefer the 2 tupperwares.
