2 New chickens, 2 more on the way

Welcome !!

Yep I agree with what's been said regarding the perch. They like to hunker down and then they can keep their feet warm in their own feathers.

My chickens adore windfalls and munch plenty from this time of year onwards.
I supplement protein into their diet during this time when I can but not in a major way and other than their moult knocking their egg production a little I don't notice a dip.

Looking forward to seeing more pics.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Too much of any food that keeps them from eating their higher protein layer feed will drop the egg production. Eggs require lots of protein in the diet. The birds also need lots of calcium for hard egg shells and contractions to push the egg out. So make sure they have plenty of oystershell.

Cute coop! Enjoy all your babies and welcome to our flock!

@Percheron chick too much fruit will drop egg production? Ok that's good to know, thanks. I'll look up EE's in my chicken encyclopedia. You could be right, thanks!

Just wondering, why don't you think I have a true Ameraucana?
Because 99% of the chickens that are sold as Ameraucanas are EEs. EEs are beautiful birds that add variety to both the coop and the egg basket. I have 8 in my flock and no 2 are alike.

@Percheron chick you could be absolutely right, but I looked at pictures of easter eggers and my chicken doesn't look anything like them. I'll have to wait and see for sure because she still quite young yet. also I didn't buy her in a store or a mail order catalog I bought her from a private owner.

Either way regardless of her breed i still adore her. Thanks for all your help!

@TwoCrows that's the one thing I don't have is oyster shell. I'll be sure to get it today and keep them on high protein diet.

I'm buying layer feed and corn from www.scratchandpeck.com.

I'm also supplementing mealworms.

If you visit the site tell me what you think. They are located in the same state I'm in.

Thanks!

@Shabana thank you, I'll look into it!

@drumstick diva and @Michael OShay I'll look into getting some cloth too. Thanks!
