So two of my hens are now laying out of the 4 (they are all the same age) and I'm not sure when I should change their feed to layer and when to introduce oyster shell. I have read horror stories of people doing it too early. I'm new at this and need guidance. Thanks

I dint know I was supposed to switch my girls to layer feed when I first started raising chickens and they did fine. I would go ahead and switch to layer feed and put oyster shells on the side for an option. I use Country Road layer pellets. Good luck and :welcome

Put out oyster shell now, while you finish up your current bag of feed. Hopefully it is not medicated. Be sure it is at least 16% protein. (You can add your own dried egg shells. If the shells are not from your flock, (sterilize them first.) You can then make the decision whether to continue with a higher protein multi flock type feed, or switch to layer.
