Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, living in Scotland (UK) but i was wondering if someone would be able to help me.
We currently have 3 birds, one adult indian blue peacock, and a pair of young(er) white peafowl. We got the blue one back earlier this year and kept him enclosed for 3 months so he didnt fly off (we took him from a friend who could no longer look after him) and then let him out. He is now very happily strutting around the garden (we are in the country so lots of space to roam), acting like he is king of the manor.
We fell in love with him, and so when we heard of someone near us (2 hours away) looking to sell a pair of around a year old, we jumped at the opportunity as there are no other breeders in the area.
This pair have been enclosed for the last 3 months as well, and have had plenty of interaction with the indian blue, but only through the fence. Anyway, we let them out today and before they left the enclosure the blue came in, started a fight with the little boy and tried to go off with the female. We have heard of one of our friends in the same situation, and the younger male that was left without his mate just flew off and never came back. obviously we don't want this to happen so what does anyone suggest we do? they've all got their own special place in our hearts, so we really want to try and find a way to make this work.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Clare
