1. When they redid the house windows here, they left the storm windows on. DH says we don't need them... so he removed the ones in the bathroom. Could I use these as windows for the barn? Do you think they'd work? They have screens and the winter glass panel... Just trying to reduce, reuse and recycle here.

2. I found this little 'bench' near the old fire pit in the woods. What could I use it for chicken wise? Any ideas?

For size reference, Kieran is 40" tall, 40lbs, 3 yrs old. I'd say the bench is 8-10 inches tall?

Not sure on the windows, but that bench would be perfect to put the waterer or food up higher - I put mine on a pallet to prevent my girls from kicking shavings and such into the water.

Edit to add: The cute little boy can be used to collect eggs, and to pet chickens - that will be really handy!

Reuse the windows, but remember that the screens are designed to keep out bugs, not coons/oppossums etc... so you can use the windows for letting in light and ventilation, but should put up something stronger to keep unwanteds out.

I was thinking the little boy should be used for kissing, cuddling, and basic squishing.....as for the bench, I would paint it in primary colors and put it in said squishable kid's bedroom...but that is just me...that is one really cute bench. A great find!!! But using it to raise the waterers is a good idea too.

I would say that the windows will be fine since they have the glass still in them.

windows will work great. if you want to racoon proof them then just staple a heavy wire mesh over the opening portion of the window on the outside. then nothing can get through.

The windows will work perfect, and the bench will be a base for chick nursury.
I have 85% of old lumber in my chicken coop and no one can tell if I don't say it.
good luck:)

Yeah, Keej likes to climb everything and loves his picture taken even more... so that's why he's there.

I thought I'd use the bench for the waterer, but was hoping someone else had a better idea for it.
I think I'll use the storm windows for the backside of the barn. There's only 2 small windows across from each other and a giant hole cut into the back wall where a window should be. If I cut out some more, I can add a few ventilation windows. DH plans to insulate and plywood it this weekend, I'm told.

The windows should be fine. I would suggest that you put up some 1/4" or 1/2" hardware cloth on the inside of the windows, to help keep out predators.

Great helper you got there!
