My ducks (Mallards and Rouens) have always gone into their house at night, but the last couple of nights they have been in the chicken coop and not hanging out on the floor, but going into the nest boxes, (I found a duck egg in a chicken nest box yesterday), and lying on the platform outside the nest boxes. These are about 3 feet off the ground. Even Victor the drake was going up and down the ramp. The chickens are NOT happy about them being up top! They don't seem to care if they are in the bottom of the coop.
They have a dog house to nest in and there is a beautiful nest in the corner that someone made, but it's not being used. My Rouen hen has a nest in the actual duck house in which she is laying daily, so it's one of the mallards who's laying in the nest box (plus the egg is smaller).
