Hello I got my first duck this weekend she was walking fine up until yesterday she managed to squeeze her way into my pugs crate while I was at work yesterday and now she keeps her leg back and curled underneath her... I don't believe her leg is broken as she does move it very seldomly and the end of her foot she grasps on to my fingers. She eats drinks and poops quite fine! Swimming though she still refuses to use her leg. I have her in a crate with a blanket so it's soft for her during the day when I'm not home. Not quite sure on if I should splint her leg... Let it heal on her own? Any advice would be helpful. There are two pics... One where she got in the crate with my pug and the second is what her leg looks like since yesterday. Thanks for any advice I appreciate it!

Is there any way you could get her to a vet? Leg injuries are a pretty serious thing that can leave permanent damage if not healed properly.

I can't afford a vet especially if they just tell me it's a sprain and something that would heal on its own. :-/

Please examine the leg carefully, all the way up. Compare it to the other. It could be a joint problem, a sprain, or a break.

Use Epsom salt compresses on the entire leg (not Epsom salt bath - it is a laxative and she should not be allowed to drink it ).

I would also, because I think these things can help, get some T-Relief and put a tiny dab of it on the leg two or three times a day, rub it in over the entire leg.

A good duck vet is best, and I know it is not always possible.

Keep letting her get some warm (not hot) water tub time to float, take weight off the leg, improve circulation and flexibility.

And please keep us posted.

So I've been letting Lucy swim in Luke warm water.. Yesterday she didn't use her leg at all with swimming and then this afternoon she finally used her leg a little bit to help swim... And then after ward while she was laying on the bed she stood up on her own. While she wasn't putting any pressure on her left leg it was still a good feeling to see her standing! I even took a picture! I felt both her legs and both feel the same there is no swelling and nothing out of the ordinary. The only thing I do notice is when I gently pet her back right above the hurt leg she kinda moves away a bit as if it hurts so maybe she's just bruised!

She's still just standing... Tries to walk but does like 2 limps and then she lays down... Still eating and drinking and pooping just fine...
