My several year old hen has been acting off for a week and a half or so.. she eats like mad.. drinks too.. but
seems weak.. poopy butt.. She did this several months ago.. and I washed off her butt when it first started, checked
for any obvious wounds ect.. and separated her from the rest, gave her water with a bit of anitbiotics in it. The kind you
put in chick water when they are babies..
she recovered fast.. couple of days you would not have know a thing was wrong..

As I mentioned she is bad off again.. the last two days she has been weak.. falls down a lot.. today is worse..
she will stand if I prop her up.. eats fine.. she is not drinking much..
I am not sure what to do, or where to start.. she is not laying..
like i said diarrea but eats like normal.

No other hens are sick.. She is not laying.. has not been for the whole week 1/2 or so..
up until the last two days.. she wanted out when I put the rest outside.. (they free range) I make her stay in the pen though.. rest fly over the fence for the day.

Ideas to try or where do i start?

Slight update... We went out to put the girls to bed.. brought their favorite bread treats. she came out of the house.. so she made it up
the one step this afternoon, into the house on her own.. she heard me calling and came out..
tries the step down and fell down.. flops a bit.. and setttles..
We got the rest of the girls in the house and gave her a warm bath.. washed her butt off.. she was not bad actually, pretty clean.
her vent looks normal to me.. I am by no means any expert tho.. Its not swollen or red looking.
she does not feel hard or lumpy, I was worried after reading about egg bound..
I checked her over again, no wounds.. and felt her crop, it feels soft and seems okay.
nothing obvious..
we put her in her spot ( i have her separated with dog crate panels. .. on fresh straw, with food and water.. she was hungry.

Nobody has any ideas?
Our hen is weaker... she is hungry and will eat and drink if I put the food in front of her, but she cannot stand up on
her own..
I dont want her to suffer but I am not sure what to do...

Try worming her. Purchase safeguard liquid goat wormer and give her 1/2cc orally undiluted. Redose her again in 10 days. Your feed store should carry it. If not, order it from Jefferslivestock.com or call them. Consider worming all your birds if you havnt done so. There's a 24 day withdrawal period start to finish.

Ah good idea..
I can get some of the liquid today and give it a try.

Tho I do have the safe-guard paste, it is for horses.

Its a 25 gram paste 10% the package says. I could do it on bread, but I am not sure what the dosage would be.

A "pea" size amount to each chicken (on bread if you wish but watch out, others will try to steal it!) Redose again in 10 days.

Got it! I will give her some right now. The rest of my girls I can do easy tonight when I put them to bed.

So the eggs.. I need to not eat them for how long?

I successfully got all the hens wormed.. thanks for the advice. The sick hen is hanging in there.. still weak but eating good.
She has been trying to sit up more..
I have been putting her outside in the pen yard so she can get some fresh air.
If its worms how long before she gets better? any ideas?

On the hen eggs since I dosed them all.. how long till they are safe to eat? 24 days? This assumes we re dose in ten days correct?

is it safe to feed the raw eggs to the dogs?
