2 yo hen with mass near leg

Can someone help us diagnose this hen? 2 yo barred rock layer, raised here from a chick. Just found this when feeding up this morning and trying to decide of this is something contagious or not. Tia!

It looks like a tumor of some kind. I don't usually recommend vets for chickens since they don't know a lot about chickens, but I might visit one. Be cautious in having a chicken put to sleep to have something removed because they frequently die from anesthesia (I am not an expert, this is just what I have read from people on BYC.) If the vet could look at it, they might be able to cauterize it without anesthesia, but if it is cancerous, it might be best to just let nature take it's course and put her down when she gets uncomfortable.

Whatever it is has come up quickly. It hangs down when she is standing and dangles freely. As long as it isn't contagious we'll probably let nature take it's course regardless. I don't think DH will take to the idea of a vet bill for a 2 yo hen...:/.

I can understand that. I would just watch it myself. I hope you will let us know how she is doing later on, and by keeping this post going, you may get some more thoughts from people who have seen this before.
