My little pet chicken has been paralyzed for 3 weeks now. She had paralysis in both of her legs back in August but recovered in one week after we'd been feeding her magnesium, calcium, and b-complex. But this time, she can't even eat on her own, plus the legs are unable to stand on their own. We keep her in our house as a pet; she is extremely spoiled and is a picky eater, so her nutrients are not very good(she was pretty chubby too). It has been 3 weeks of hand-feeding her "chicken feed mixed with water that makes little soft balls", with supplements such as vita oxidant, minerals, and magnecal D powered mixed along as well. We have been hand-feeding her a lot of meal worms as well. A big concern is that she opens her mouth every second even in her sleep, but after we hand-feed her meals she wouldn't open them for ike 10 minutes, before opening her mouth again for like every second. Her comb is skrinking and both the comb and wattle are losing a bit color. Over the three weeks of her supplement recovery there is very minor signs of improvement, other than she can move her wings. I'm not sure because, if her comb is shrinking, how long can she stays with us. I would like to know how long can chicken fight with paralysis with only hand feeding.

We've been feeding her calcium supplement, vitamin b complex, durvet vitamin and electrolyte powder, durvet probiotic powder, and usana vita oxidant, usana minerals supplement, and usana magnecal D which is magnesium calcium and vitamin d. Last time she had this she could eat on her own but this time she can only be hand-fed.

if you have a other chickens be sure to wash your hands before and after touching the paralyzed chicken before you touch the other chickens Xx

She looks like she might be gasping. Does she have any enlargement of her lower belly from fluid or ascites? It would be hard to know if her paralysis is do to Mareks or something else, unless she was blood tested or a necropsy was done if you lose her. Personally, I would try to get her eating normally again. Moistened and dry chicken feed could be offered, and maybe supplimented with a little scrambeld egg or tuna. Plenty of clean water should be given, and 1/4 tablet daily of human B complex crushed in a spoonful of water or food might help. I would put a time limit on how long you will be able to treat her in this condition. A chicken sling chair is useful with lame chickens, but if they aren’t eating, I would consider putting her down and getting a necropsy with testing for Mareks.
