Total cost out of pocket for me was only $20 because I was able to reuse wood from a deck that came from a damaged swing set / playhouse I got free off of craigslist. This brooder box was super simple and could easily have been completed in a day / weekend.

Very very nice! Looks so much better than OSB or plywood.

You'll find the two-part lid is a stroke of genius. When they get older, mine (25) would try to all fly out when I opened the lid!!!! Mine was on the deck, then they would try to run and hide in holes under the house where I couldn't get them. Crazy tryiing to scoop up ten or twelve numerous chicks before they hid!

With the two part lid I then made, I would then push them under the unopened lid, drape a towel over the open middle down to the brooder bottom, while I changed water and food holders and bedding - one half at a time.
