Hello everyone,

I recently read a few articles about Salmonellosis making wild birds sick in Washington state. I could not find articles about the potential of wild birds infecting chickens. My chicken are free range with pellets offered. Occasionally I have seen wild birds attempt to drink their water or food (most of the time, one of the hens scares off the wild birds) and some wild birds hang out in the same bushes as the hens.

I haven't seen news like this since owning chickens...any precautions need to be taken in your all's options?

Audibon asks people in the NW to remove wild bird feeders until the problem is abated. Congregational feeding spreads it...to rodents too. Traps for rats should be re-set.

I don't wear shoes in the henhouse that I've worn downtown Pigeon poo looked awful last month i noticed. Other than that , some folks try to keep their flock under a covered run during outbreaks. Hope the cold snap helps resolve the issue.
