PART 10 – THE TURKEY

I thought I would have more to write about with regards to this turkey, but unfortunately it turns out I do not… ***me-shrugging-with-the-sound-effect-of-crickets-chirping-in-the-background*** …sorry. What can I write?... hmmmmm… he was big, impressive, and he was doing his turkey thing with his snood (the piece of skin that hangs down from a turkey's beak).

Ooooo, I have a question. How many colours do turkeys come in?

PART 11 – THE BANTAMS

Caption 1: In the second hall, some bantam chickens.

Caption 2: In the second hall, a Wyandotte hen, in ‘Silver Lace’ colour, owned by Nollie Stofberg.

Caption 3: In the second hall, a Wyandotte pullet, in ‘Golden Lace’ colour, owned by Nollie Stofberg. Of all the poultry on show at this event, this little hen is at the very top of my list as the one I wished I could have taken home with me for real. Although maybe not my absolute favourite chicken breed, she is of a sensible and suitable chicken breed that I could plausibly be able to keep in my small yard and that I also very much like the look of, especially the size of her eyes which appear large. She, of all the Wyandotte bantams, caught my attention because she was calmly laying down next to a beautiful shaped egg which you can just see peeking out from behind her in this picture. Perhaps one day I will have chickens.

Caption 4: In the “main” hall, an American Serama ‘Trial’ pullet, under 12 months of age, in A.O.C. (which again I am guessing stands for ‘Any Other Colour’), owned by Johannes Botha.

Caption 5, 6 and 7: I spotted this pair in the “main” hall which instantly reminded me of the plucky little Old English Game ‘Blue Red’ colour cockerel and the delightful little ‘Wheaten’ colour hen of the same breed, both owned by Johannes Botha, which I very much liked at the previous show I had attended. It has me wondering if they are perhaps the same pair? Unfortunately, there was no information tag on their pen to verify my suspicion. They both wanted to peck at my camera, which made it difficult for me to photograph them properly, and they had me laughing at their entertaining antics. Such great characters!

And turkeys come in a LOT of colors:

Oh My Hat!!! You were not joking when you typed 'LOT' in capitals. I counted over a hundred colour varieties. I am astonished.

I learn so much while busy with these write-ups that it makes it so worthwhile doing them, but it also creates a lot of questions too. Thank you for answering some of them. Very much appreciated.
