I thought I'd help you all look at incubating a little differently tonight.

If I were to tell you that it's 21 days till Christmas, how many of you go in to a panic and think. Oh my Gosh! I'm no where near done with my shopping. There's just not enough time to get it all done!!

On the other hand, if I were to tell you that it takes 21 days to hatch chicks, how many of you get bummed and think, How come so long??? It takes forever, I'll never make it through this. It's just forever.

I'm right aren't I?

Oh, By the way, it's 21 days till Christmas

Well, I for one sure wouldn't set a Christmas hatch.

Enough confusion around here at that time anyway, without worrying about babies hatching.

But, I DO have some that are supposed to hatch Friday (7th) so I will have cute babies for those who want to see them, Christmas. We have Christmas get togethers the Sun. before and the Sun after, so well be a bit of a mess. I wish you all an early Marry Christmas.

Yes, but the day before Christmas you don't feel like throwing up, but you do the day before your hatch because you are fretting "was my temps o.k. was my humidity o.k., did I turn them enough, did I candle too much and etc.:|

Oh, I'm not supposed to do that till the day before the hatch? Shoot I'm on day 12 and already wondering all those things. I keep candling, because I can't see any veins, so I'm fretting and fussing even though there are these big dark patches that keep getting bigger. My luck they are just bacteria and the egg is getting ready to explode.

what are you candling with, Cowboy? I use a little 2 cell maglight, and go into a DARK place (or at night with the lights off) and make a circle with my finger and thumb and put the egg on top of that, and turn on my little flashlight under the egg.
If you are on day 12, you probably won't see veins any more--just dark places, as they will be further developed by now. If you see dark places, things are happening. Good Luck!

Judy, does that really work? Here I was fretting trying to figure out how Ill candle my eggs...this before I have any eggs, incubator, coop, or anything!

That's what I'm using, but these eggs for some reason just don't want to be looked at. They must be pretty modest chicks or something. Ok, if I'm not supposed to see veins anymore, I'll stop worrying about that. Thanks
