So I've hatched out 3 chicks. I have them in a tote with 2 older, store bought chicks. The smallest ones I could find. They've been showing the new hatched ones how to eat and drink and kept the first hatchling (now 2 days old) company for a day. I went in to check on them and one of the newly hatched was in the waterer. It's cold and probably not going to make it. I put it back into the incubator. It's just a normal small sized waterer. The basin is large enough for a small chick to get into though, obviously. Do I need to take it out? What kind of waterer is acceptable?????

You can use that waterer but put marbles in the base! (Clean ones of course) Hope your chick makes it!!! Maybe it'll warm back up. :(

Gosh. Thanks!!!!! I don't know why I didn't put something in the bottom. I'm rather devastated. Thanks again!

Chicks can be attracted to water for the first week of life and can drown, even in waterers. I pulled a chick out of a hog pan--a shallow pan which I use to water my chickens in the summer--as the mother hen looked on hysterically. I place several of them around the barnyard. luckily, the chick was fine. Most people say to place pebbles or marbles in feeders for chicks to prevent drowning. Sorry for your chick.

I took a store bought chick waterer and modified it to keep it up where they cant fall in. I adjust it up as they grow. As for the little chick, it might be special. only time will tell. Just put it in incubator or under heat lamp until dry. good luck

I put it in the incubator immediately after finding it but it didn't make it. :(
