24hour sexing chicks.

I recently heard that you can check the sex of a chick in its first 24hrs of hatching, but after that period its all over you cant do it. Has any one ever heard of this??? Its involves blowing on the top of their head or some thing, the big chicken manufacturers do it.

You can vent sex chicks, and that you have to do within 24 hours. It is very difficult to do and takes many years of practice. Some hatcheries also feather sex some of there chicks that where bred with this trait and this is also done right away.

it ussually works from 1-3 days.

A cockerels primary and coverts will be the same length. The pullets primary feather are longer than the coverts.

I sexed my chick with the help of these. Its a he.

These are great thanks so much, I'm going to try it out, but does it only work on Sex-Links or will it work on my Pure Bred White Leghorn and Pure Bred Minorca chicks???

It may and it may not. It really depends if they where bred for this.

Oh so that's why is done on an industrial level because the hens are specifically bred for that. Clever. I shall try it and give you the results.
