28wks old, lots of laying but no egg?

I have seven hens ranging from 18-28 wks. We have three laying eggs

but one of the 28 wks old just lays in the nest for about an hour everyday... sings her egg song and leaves the nest empty?? She even fusses at the other hens if they lay in the nest too long... what's going on with her? She has been doing this for about six weeks. We keep thinking today is the day for Lucy... but not so

She's just practicing! She'll eventually get in gear, though with the days getting shorter, I'm not sure how soon. are you providing supplemental light? Where your girls are younger and not all laying yet, I'd recommend adding some light at the beginning of the day. You have to start slowly and increase the light every week. Check for threads re: the specifics of adding light. I bet if you give her some more light, she'll start cranking out eggs for you.
