1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
3 year old Amaracauna/Cochin X bantam, losing weight
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
About 2 weeks ago, my Silkie hen wouldn't go out of the coop, just sat there on her perch I gave her some vitamins and started her on penicillin, she had a bit of a poopy bottom, no respiratory symptoms at all. About a day after I started her on antibiotics (penicillin) she died :0(
About 4 days later, my Ameracauna x Cochin bantam hen started with the same symptoms. I dewormed her with piperazine, then gave her 0.25 fenbendazole. She showed no improvement so I have started her on penicillin. I also dusted her for mites/lice, she seems to preen underneath and near her legs, and her feathers look a bit ragged. She is losing weight and I don't want to lose her.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? about 4 days
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? no but the Silkie hen died about a week ago of the same symptoms...maybe I should have done a necropsy?
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. No.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Just layer ration, some black oil sunflowerseeds, scratch, and some usual household scraps.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. I think her poop looks fairly normal, kind of dark green with light yellow on top.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? see above.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?no avian vet in area
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.I will try to post a photo
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use Just pine shavings and dirt and grass outside. Outdoor yard is shared with goats and 2 other chickens.
