2nd opinion on plant with damaged leaves

So... I got a few plants that are peppered full of holes from earwig damage. They come out at night and its like there's tiny holes all over the leaves. Eventually so many they basically strip the leaves down to nothing.

I was curious if covering up the plant entirely a few days could help the leaves recover since they are already stressed? Or at least only covered during the peak 1 - 4 PM sun heat? Has anyone tried this?

Do Yuck have Japanese beetles by you? They do that type of damage, and do it quickly. They have become a plague around here. I'm not familiar with earwigs beyond hearing the name. Covering plants can work as long as all pests are out of the area.

What about flea beetles? They make tons of tiny round holes.
