2x2x12' cages ok for pigeons? Other questions as well

I finally found some pigeons and will be picking them up tomorrow(3 pair white fantails). I have outdoor cages that are 12' long x 2' high and 2' deep 1/2x1/2" wire on the floors and on the front of the cage 1x1" wire. Would these cages be ideal for pigeons? I have no problem building something different if need be but there are already there.

Should I cover one end of the front? Thanks in advance

This is about the minimum space required for a nesting pair of pigeons I come to realize (5 gallon pail).

That would be excellent for pigeons, and in fact, more than enough space, really. And I like at least three sided pens. But some use all wire pens, especially in warmer areas.

i would divide into three pens/ reason easy to catch pairs would do better less figthing easy to settle to the nest it needs a cover and protection from the north wind at least i know some will say no drafts but i time if they stay dry and out of the north wind they will be ok

welcome to pigeons, and happy to see some more people near me. make sure the wire is small enough and there is boxes at least that they can hide in from things trying to get at or pull parts through wire.otherwise the boxes inside, and tarp over top to keep shady and dry should do.

Can anyone tell me if the people who live nxt door to me complain about my birds to council as they poo on her garden will i have to keep my hirds in a loft or will they du any thing or will i have to get rid of my birds? I only have ten

I would ask your neighbours if the pigeon poop is a problem and try and be pro active to avoid any complaints to begin with. I personally have about 20 birds and fly them at least once a day and house them in my loft for the better part of the day.

most fertilizers contain fish, chicken, pigeon, bat, or hove stock poop. i personally prefer to use chicken and even pigeon poop, and even the feathers promote worms to come to decompose and help soil immensely. plus they eat weeds and pest insects and scratch to airate the soil lighter and gentler than my chickens. plus they may chase off songbirds that spread weeds seeds all over when poop. maybe try to nicely tell them that if its an issue at all.

first check local laws about keeping pigeons then go from there you may not be able to have them at all some laws will say poultry so clareify if pigeons are inclueded in this law
