I incubated 21 eggs and miraculously I got a 100% hatch rate on March 23, 2015. They are Ameraucana (father) /Frizzle (1 mother) /Barred Rock (1 mother)/ Black Star Sex Link (1 mother) mixes. I introduced 9 females into the main coop about 2 weeks ago. I usually get 2 eggs a day from this coop (the Frizzle went broody and stopped laying and the Barred Rock is just plain mean so we moved her to a different coop).
Yesterday I noticed a new egg in my laying box. A small very light pink almost white egg. Today I went to collect my morning eggs and found a medium-large egg laying on the floor of the coop (my chickens always lay in their elevated boxes and it would be difficult to roll one out). The egg is basically white which is an odd color for my hens since they all lay brown-light brown eggs.

These new chickens aren't even 4 months old yet. I was wondering if maybe my Sex Link could have possibly laid a white egg? Or if my broody Frizzle could have laid the small white egg? With all the new chickens in the coop I get a new surprise from their spunky little butts everyday! :)

Any suggestions? Anyone ever experienced a chicken laying this early?

The roosters from the hatch started crowing at 2 months old.

My little 13 week old silkie x marans cross girl has just begun laying. I was quite shocked because she is so small but she behaves like one of the big girls and has even been helping her mum brood her clutch of new eggs.

That is great to know! I have about 2 years experience, on my own, with having chickens. I grew up on a farm so I have been around them my whole life but they were more like a chore as a young one. Now, they're my babies. In my opinion, the best chickens are the ones I incubate and raise (more like coddle) myself. They love to be around me (until it is rooster-culling time) and, I suppose, feel more "at home" which leads to them producing much earlier. Thank you graphicali for sharing your pic and response. The pic actually reminds me of my new, young layer. And thank you sjturner79 for your response. I love to hear this forum's community opinion.

My silver laced polish hen is laying at 3 1/2 months very small eggs and my hen (barred rock) laying since 4 months now 5 1/2 and so far laid 12 eggs.Is this young age for them to be laying? i seem it very ususual since most of my hens started at 7 or older.
