Hi everyone! My 3-1/2 week old Blue Cochin just ate a very small, roughly 1/4" long, skinny shaving of plastic. She swallowed it when I picked her up to retrieve it. I fed them all chick grit for the first time right after she ate it, hoping this will aid in digesting it. Is there anything else I can do? Do young chicks recover from eating non-edible items such as this? Thank you for any input/advice anyone has to offer!

I highly doubt she'll do anything but pass it. I caught one of mine eating wood shavings a few weeks ago. George is still quite alive. Dumb as a rock, but alive. (Seriously, his mum's over there, calling them all for feed, and he goes for the recently-repaired gate.)

:lau This made me laugh out loud! I swear I had the same cockerel a few years ago, he got named Doofus.

What kind of plastic...stiff and sharp or soft and flexible?
How big was it?

There's not much you can do but hope it goes thru OK. :fl
Yea, i figured, I was hoping for better. It was soft and flexible, a corkscrew shaving remnant from a hole that was drilled into a plastic storage bin, roughly 1/4" long if that, and about the width of a piece of dried thin spaghetti. I was totally caught off guard but surprised at how quickly the chick ate it. Hopefully this will end positively! :fl:fl:fl

I bet it'll go thru just fine....in the future always remove all drilling buggers, and avoid drilling plastic in chicken territory.
