SO NOW ITS DAY FOUR OF MEDS!

so she is still eating and drinking, and taking her meds, she is very social, loves when we cuddle with her, loves bath time! ( she takes 4 baths for about an hr at a time..very therapeutic?)
but no walking, im wondering if she is in pain, and suffereing? i dont want to make her suffer, what should i do? i would hate to have to put down such a young beautiful Duck like Daisy...also, how do i tell if she has a fever? how do i take her temperature? the old fashion way? lol?

Thanks everybody!

Can you post a photo?

You may not have totally gotten out the plug and you may have to do it again.

At this point I highly urge you to visit an avian vet to get antibiotics. If the infection has spread to the rest of the body, antibiotics is absolutely necessary to save your duck's life. Baytril is the antibiotic of choice. The vet will likely give a baytril injection and prescribe oral baytril for at least a week. If possible, get a topical solution to put directly on the wound also. In our experience and that of others that we've spoke to, the topical solution helps immensely.

After removing the abscess you need to still need to clean and disinfect the wound until it fully heals. Otherwise the infection will come back.

Additional things you can do:
- Make a bath with epsom salts and/or povidone-iodine solution and soak your ducks feet in it for 10-15 minutes at least once a day. Make sure your duck doesn't drink the water.
- Use antibiotic ointment such at Neosporin on the wound.
- Use donut shaped corn cushions to put padding around the wound. This helps reduce the pressure directly on the wound.
- Bandage the wound to keep it clean and dry
- Don't let your duck swim unattended. The wound should be cleaned and dressed immediately after swimming

There is a medication for fish called Tricide-Neo. I've seen reports that soaking the feet in a bath of that medication is very effective.

UPDATE! So I took Daisy to our vet, it's some toxin, took X-rays, no lead, just what appeared to be an egg? She has layed since Wednesday...now on antibiotics and she was de-wormed as well, the vet says there is not much to do but wait, cause it looks very grave, so from Wednesday to last night, she had this very run HORRIFIC smelling poop...very sickly, this morning, I saw sh ate all her food, and water and while she was swimming in the bath tub, a small solid poop instead...BUT...neon green??? I'm still worried, we love Daisy Duck, now she is her small storage container box, she goes everywhere we go, sleeps next to us too...she can't stand, so the box is narrow to hold her up, for enough space for her food as water infront of her...ANYONE HAVE POSTIVIE EXPREOANCE WITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS? hope she pulls through! Thanks on advance!

Being on antibiotics could have effected her poop- you should start seeing some improvement if the antibiotics are working. Keep her comfortable, the fact that she is still eating and drinking is a positive sign.

Also buy a pair of neoprene shoes from Nettie at indoorducks.com The shoes will keep her feet dry and clean. I would buy two pairs, so you have a spare when you have to wash one. Good Luck with your duck. I hope it is better soon.

Thanks duckyfromoz & tia! im gonna def look pout for improvement, but none so far, i edited my first post! NEW INFO!
