3 cocks 1 hen

so... my four guineas have turned out to be three males and one lonely hen.

My males are starting to be jerks to each other, my poor female doesn’t even want to be around them.

Anyone know how I can get two more females that are about 2-3 months old... or maybe trade a male for a female?

I’m going to call the co-op that I bought them from tomorrow and see if they know anyone who has a flock I could buy from.

Any advice appreciated!!

All of the males will protect her but they will continue fighting with each other. Most of the fights will be chases and feather pulling. It is rare for the fight to become a face to face battle with the participants heads becoming bloody, but it can happen.

Watch for ads on craigslist and/or facebook.

The fights are quite amusing, then all puffed way up at each other running like banshees through the yard. I just don’t want anyone to kill each other.

These types of guinea fights are rarely to the death. When they are mature and a long time leader loses his position, death can result because of the depression caused by the loss of position. The only time that I have had guineas kill one of their own was when I improperly introduced a new member into the flock. It was not accepted and did not survive the first day.

I did find it easy to introduce new guinea hens into a flock that was predominantly male.

Well unfortunately the co-op was no help.. really disappointing.

I found a farm but they only have keets right now and mine are about 3 months old.. she also told me it was impossible to introduce new guineas because the new ones would form their own pack and not merge in to mine.. which.. just from the research over done, doesn’t always seem to be the case.

I think I’m going to continue my search for two more females about 2-3 months old and hope to introduce them slowly.
