3 Gone in the Night Conroe, TX

I am so sorry.

You will need to lock up your chickens every night, whether you catch a coon, 'possum or whatever in the next few days. Everything loves chicken and chicken wire is no problem for any predator. It keeps the chickens in, but does not keep predators out.

I hope everything will be OK tonight.

We're still in mourning too here in Texas also. We lost 3 also.

So sorry for you!!

My coop was accidently left open one night this weekend, and my roo disappeared. They are usually locked up tight, but we went away for the weekend, and asked the neighbor to lock them in. ARGH!
Anyway, he is gone without a trace, no sign of a struggle, no blood, no feathers anywhere. My girls are fine, but have not laid any eggs all week.
What could take him without a trace?

I'm so sorry to hear about your roo ChickieBird.

Last night, we put all 9 chickens in the coop and they were safe and sound this morning. We also set a coon trap, which caught something, but it broke out. We reinforced the trap and are hopeful that we will catch the killer tonight! Thank you all for your support

Well, the reinforcements on the trap worked. We went to feed and release the chickens this morning and found a huge raccoon in the trap. He was very big and looked rather old. There must be a family because the trap had holes dug all around the outside where they were trying to "dig" out the prisoner. We will set the trap again tonight and hopefully capture them one by one.
