Hello,

I recently got 3 female Indian runner ducks, they are very scared of me and are so skittish. I can't hand feed them as they run away however I am leaving peas as treats. I approach their cage quietly, with a soft voice and at a low level.

I am just wondering is there anything else I can do to help them settle?

Also one of the ducks poo has been orange, is this normal?

Thanks

My experience with runner ducks is that they are, as a breed, skittish, even the ones I've raised from day-olds. Some, but not all, will take peas from my hand. I've never had a cuddly runner. But, they are endlessly entertaining critters!

I don't have a good answer regarding the orange droppings; although very occasionally, I will see something similar from my ducks. @Miss Lydia might be able to explain it.

I've seen other colors of poo but not this, are they out free ranging or penned? what are you feeding them including treats?
Yes Runners are skiddish but I agree with @Callender Girl they are so enjoyable. Just keep up with what you are doing now to get to know them.
How old are they and do you know anything about their life before you?

I have 2 cuddly runners. I think they. Both might be boys cuz 8 weeks and still no quacks :( but that's ok they will nuzzle up in my neck and nibble and chat and play with my hair. One of them will crawl right into my lap whenever I sit on the ground. I feel so lucky to have a couple cuddly runners they are blues with black splotching and super sweet. I as well stopped worrying about poop colors since it fluctuates so much if they r acting fine they are and next day will see a change in colors and consistency. I do stay away from giving them any cabbage cuz man do they smell extra nasty when they got cabbage poos 💩.
