My family is heartbroken that we need to part with our quirky and quiet "Miss Patty", now Mister Patrick. He is about three months old and he was brought to our home to ride out his adolescence, while we waited to see if it was a he or she.
He is curious and calm but a little skittish. He is quiet and spends his days making soft baby noises while foraging around our yard. He is nonaggressive and doesn't mind having people and other animals around, but he does not like to be handled and is very scared when picked up. We have done our best to give him a nice little existence here in our small SE Portland yard.
He was pecked on quite a bit at his first flock, and so it's been a slow process of growing his feathers back. He IS at the bottom of our pecking order still, but the only signs of a rough start are some scraggly tail feathers and Blu-Kote remnants. He eats Scratch & Peck grower feed, chicken grit, the occasional dried meal worm treat and has forages in our garden most of the day. I have not treated him with any pesticides yet, but I regularly (and safely) treat the coop and run with DE and Strike III pellets are added to their food.
I'm not looking to send him to be culled. We will hang onto him until we find the right home since he hasn't started crowing yet.

Note: Lavender Orpingtons are not an official coloration of the Orpington, and this bird originally came from a local feed store, so although he may develop into a beautiful rooster, he will not be "show" quality for the breed. He is pet and barnyard breeder quality and I can make no promises otherwise.
