1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)

17 week old Silkie chick. She weighs the same as she did a couple of days ago

2) What is the behavior, exactly.

I don't know how to describe the behavior. She just sits and has this wheezing. It's like she's trying to chirp, but she has gone horse. Maybe overheated, since we are getting to the heated months of the year in Texas/Arkansas area.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?

I just noticed this when I went to take care of them a few minutes ago.

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?

No.

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.

I don't see any injuries. When I came up on her, she wasn't moving, just doing this. She usually tries to run away from me when I try to catch her, but she didn't make a run for it. I was thinking, maybe her leg might be broken some how, but no broken bones have been noted. She was picked up and placed in front of the water, but walked with no limp to the exact spot she was laying before. She nested down and started again.

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

If it is caused by a trauma, the only thing I can think of is she got herself caught in between the fence of the coop and one of the posts.

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.

The normal diet I place is a mixture of layer crumble (for the 19 week old), starter/grower (for the silkies), a bit of corn, mealworms, and grit.

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

She has been in that same spot for a while from the accumulation of poop that had gathered, so I don't know if it was runny or she trampled it until it went flat.

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?

None yet

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

I want to try and treat her myself, since I don't know of any vets in the area.

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

I can't post a picture, but I'll add a video.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use

Housing is a simple coop with Pine shavings.

How do I check? Or get it out if there is?

I have her sitting on a pet bed beside me so I can monitor her. She's lethargic, but doesn't have any problems with balancing or flapping her wings. I offered her water, and she seems to be swallowing fine, but hasn't shown any interest in pecking for food.

I hope someone else will chime in. I don't know how to advise you. I WOULD look down her throat to see if you see anything though.

Well, after a bit of a struggle, we looked down her throat and saw nothing. 1 hr and 30 min later, no change in her actions. I really appreciate your suggestion. It was a fair shot.

Update, just got a bit of chicken poop from her, and it's runny, mostly white, and has only a very little reddish orange coloration. I have had her sitting beside me on a pet bed with food and water available. I've been periodically giving her a mixture of water/vinegar and it seems to have perked her up a bit. I had to let the dogs run through for out/potty time and back to be put back up, so I let my husband hold her during that time (I have a high prey-driven pharaoh hound that loves chicken

). After setting her down in front of the food and water, she started to take a bit to eat, but started having a sneezing fit and quit.

Paint has gained the energy to eat, and though I haven't seen her drink on her own, I make sure she has water in her mouth every couple of hours. I am headed to bed now and hope she will still be just as lively (or better yet, more so) by morning.

Excellent news! Paint has improved much! I woke up to see her grooming herself and not having any more breathing issues.

If anyone has any issue similar, the remedy I had for her was: I secluded her from other any other chicken/chick (duh), I placed her under a heat lamp, and took a small dip bowl containing about 1/2 cup water with 2 drops of regular vinegar (I didn't have apple cider vinegar). She was offered food and water, and she is MUCH MUCH better now. :) Thank you for the replies, ChickensAreSweet. :)

Somehow I missed seeing all your latest posts until now!

I am glad that she is eating and breathing fine now!!!

You are welcome! (I sure didn't do much but moral support is better than nothing I suppose.)
