I have 4 silkie girls, 3 of the 4 have just recently started laying. Yay!
The other day I noticed 3 of the 4 had some softer pop, and some messy dried feathers that I trimmed a bit. behavior is normal.
mans indis go ahead and worms them, to follow up with 2nd dose in 2 wks.
I’ve never had messy bottoms, any thoughts. On cause/reasons?

The hormonal changes initiating the laying can lead to softer excrements that can easily stuck to their Silkie fluff.

You might get a fecal float to check for worms or just go ahead and deworm them, but be aware that depending on the dewormer you use, there will be some egg withdrawal time to consider.

thank you. 😊 it’s the Ivermectin injectable. What is the typical egg withdrawal time? 😬

I'd look at diet first.
What all and how exactly are you feeding?
They’ve been on Purina Flock Raiser since I got them. The breeder feeds it to all of her Silkies-from chicks to layers to roosters.
they get a little cracked corn most afternoons when it’s gonna be cold, and in the morning info I usually give them some warm mash or scrambled eggs. They get grit mixed in with feed, and occasional dried meal worm treats.
