Hello All! This is my first post, as I have just been reading others posts until now. We recently acquired our first chicks. We have had them for two weeks, as of today. Supposedly the youngest chicks were 2-3 days old when we got them, the other four being within a week or so in age.
The youngest pair (supposedly Amerucana sp?) both seemed to be growing about the same until a few days ago. Nugget is the one I'm concerned about. She seems stunted, weighing in at 43.2 grams whereas Cesar is 76.5 grams and the same age/breed. She also sleeps a lot more than the other chicks. We think she is the lowest in the pecking order so hangs back a bit, but now that I know she is half the size I am more concerned. She seems to be drinking and eating a little. I saw a poop of hers yesterday that was very very tiny, but seemed pretty normal. We found a slightly red tinted something in the water.
My question is should I try treating her with Corid? I found it available at the feed store nearby. Also, what about treating the other chicks? Should she be isolated if we treat her, and is the isolation more stressful on her? We are complete newbies and I have grown quite attached to little Nugget.
The other Chicks are 2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 barred rocks. The barred rocks are about a week or nine days older and have grown quite fast. Could she just be stressed out? The barred's are pretty mellow. Didn't weigh them yet, but the reds weigh in at 102.2 grams and 119.9 grams.
Thanks for any ideas, help or concern!
