I have a 3 week old chick that for the last three days has been I wouldn't say lethargic but she has been really calm sleeping a lot standing up. They are on heat in the house so temps are good. not eating a lot but is eating somewhat will drink and poop is a little watery. They have not been offered anything except water and med chick feed crumbles. I did give sugar water last night and this morning but that does not seem to have made her perk up anymore. This is only the second time I have had chicks and am new to chickens. I really don't want to lose this chick I did this hatch for a frizzle and of course she is the only frizzle I got.

Thanks
Courtney

Sorry you've got one that's sick...it just breaks your heart, I know!

Lethargy is common with so many illnesses, it's really difficult to know what it could be. It's imperative, though, that she gets nutrition and water - they can get dehydrated so quickly! I'm not an expert, but if this chick were mine, I'd first try giving some Poly-Vi-Sol children's vitamins - 3 drops in her beak twice daily. Get the kind with no iron. This might perk her up enough to get her eating and drinking, which could possibly resolve the problem. Her poop may be a bit runny due to her not eating as much.

Please keep us posted on your little one - and good luck with her!
